Follow me

When Jesus was first starting His ministry, right before the call of Matthew, there were men who came to Jesus and said, they wanted to follow Him.They had something they wanted or needed to do first or they didn’t want to be homeless because Jesus was homeless. The first guy did not want to worry about where he was going to sleep or what he was going to eat. Jesus called the second man and said,” follow me” but he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:59‭-‬60. Jesus was not being brutal when he said “let the dead bury the dead” I think he meant the spiritual dead because he saw the spiritual potential in this guy. Think about it, this guy could have been leader of a church. Then another man came to Jesus and said I will follow you, but first let me go say goodbye to my family. Then Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62. Another passage that goes well with this particular man is Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. The reason it says to hate your father and mother, because it is compared to how much you love God. The greek word used in this passage is miseó one definition I found was to love less than. As this is the dive deeper I want to ask you a question are you willing to pay the cost to follow Jesus? It may mean you won’t be popular, or you may be asked to leave your friends and family. It may mean you don’t have the newest whatever, so that a kid or kids in another country can eat and have a place to stay. Let’s think what cost we will pay and what but is in the way of following Jesus.
